Montezuma Castle

Location:
Montezuma Castle National Monument is about 50 miles south of Flagstaff, Arizona off I-17.

Driving Directions from Phoenix:
From Phoenix, take I-17 north to Camp Verde. Montezuma Castle is located 3 miles off Interstate 17. Use Exit Number 289 and follow signs.

Montezuma Castle has a visitor center with exhibits on the prehistoric Singua people who lived in the region. The site also contains short, hard-surfaced walking trails. There is a $3.00 park entrance fee that is good for 7 days.

Montezuma Well is a detached unit of Montezuma Castle National Monument located approximately 11 miles from the park. Take Exit 293 from I-17 and drive four miles. No entrance fee is charged.

Because summer temperatures can be fatal to pets left in closed vehicles, they are allowed on the self-guiding trail while restrained on a leash of not more than six feet in length.

Camping:
There are no camping facilities at Montezuma Castle. However the surrounding area provides a variety of camping opportunities from U.S. Forest Service and State Park campgrounds to private RV parks. A small picnic area is located at the park. But no ash- producing fires are allowed.
Overnight accommodations are located in Camp Verde, approximately 5 miles away. For further information contact the Camp Verde Chamber of Commerce at 928-567-9294.

Facilities:
Food and gasoline are available at Camp Verde located approximately 5 miles away.

Required Permits:
None

Safety:
Visitors must stay on established trails and be on alert for venomous reptiles. Visitors should take precautions to avoid over-exposure to the sun and heat and drink ample water.
