— Channel 8 production following PBS special “The Forgetting” informs viewers about resources and services in Arizona —

On January 21 at 8 p.m., KAET will broadcast the groundbreaking PBS special “The Forgetting: A Portrait of Alzheimer's.” Today, approximately five million Americans are victims of this devastating disease. While recent advances in medical research show exciting progress, effective therapies are still out of reach. “The Forgetting” offers insight, help and hope.
Following the 90-minute special, KAET's “Alzheimer's in Arizona” will feature local professionals offering information about programs and resources in Arizona. “ Alzheimer's in Arizona” airs Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 9:30 p.m. on Channel 8. Viewers will be invited to call and request a free packet of information about Alzheimer's disease and related topics in aging and caregiving. The packets will be available in English and Spanish.

“Alzheimer's in Arizona” will highlight three areas of the disease:

•  Prevention: Is there anything I can do to prevent Alzhemier's? Guest: Dr. Marwan Sabbagh, Sun Health Research Institute.

•  Caregiver issues and concerns: What are the signs of caregiver burnout? Guest: Dr. Lauren Bonner.

•  Local resources: A compilation of resources available to patients and caregivers. Guest: Paul Harrington, Alzheimer's Association.
