Project Overview

On December 1, 1999, KAET premiered the Wild Arizona pilot episode and companion Web site to enthusiastic television audiences and Web site visitors.

Building on the success of the pilot, we hope to launch our digital television service in January 2001 with a 13-part Wild Arizona series and companion Web site. It promises to be an exciting multimedia initiative showcasing travel, recreation, adventure, nature and conservation in Arizona. Both the television series and the companion Web site will be designed to engage the general public, students, and teachers and educate them about our great state.

Wild Arizona will discover the beauty and drama of Arizona's great outdoors as we explore three stories each week. We'll profile the famous and the not so famous. We'll take viewers to well-known places and to places they may never visit because of rugged terrain or access restrictions. We'll go "On the Road with" Arizona personalities as they share their favorite places and pastimes. We'll go "In the Wild" with Game & Fish staff as they demonstrate how to call in bull elks or track California condors. We'll meet "Wild Arizonans" who white water kayak, hang glide or rock climb. The spectrum of segment possibilities is unlimited in a state as diverse as Arizona.

In addition to what you see on this pilot Web site, we have more exciting Web components in development including cyber field trips, expert interviews, behind the scenes features, contests and Kids Club activities.

Wild Arizona is modeled on other highly successful PBS outdoors series. Across the country, stations are producing outdoor programming and companion Web sites that consistently attract high viewership and win prestigious awards.

Wild Arizona is the newest addition to KAET's award-winning Arizona Collection, an anthology exploring the land, history and people of Arizona and the Southwest.

We hope you've enjoyed this site and will tell us what you think.

If you would like to help fund this project, KAET is seeking charter sponsorship for Wild Arizona's inaugural year. For funding information, call our Development Department at (480) 965-2876.
